Glasgow is Scotland's largest city and the centre of the Greater Glasgow conurbation. Greater Glasgow is home to approximately 40% of Scotland's population. Glasgow's major river, the River Clyde ("the wonderful Clyde", as the song says), flows from inland Lanarkshire in the south-east and curls westward, widening to become an estuary as it goes, then turns southwards around Renfrewshire, much of which has been absorbed in the expansion of Glasgow.
